Greenly's mixed traffic version of the L.N.E.R. A1 4-6-2.
Ordered 1926, built to designs of Henry Greenly as a mixed traffic version of his pacifics for the R.H.D.R. Withdrawn from service 1931 as unsuitable for available traffic. Used as a source of spares for other locos. until reduced to a boiler shell and set of frames. 1946-47 rebuilt to full working order by Clifford Edwards at Hove. 1961 new boiler fitted, 1970-72 extensive overhaul at New Romney.
Built to the designs of Henry Greenly, ordered by J.E.P.Howey 1926, hauled R.H.D.R. inaugural train 16/07/1927. Withdrawn from service 1931, 1936 rebuilt to work ballast trains for the Romney Marsh Ballast Co. 1940 fitted with armour plating at the Southern Railway's works at Ashford. Used by the army on an armoured train for beach protection. 1946 rebuilt Ashford Works with new larger tender, continued on ballast trains until c 1948. 1958 new boiler by Gower.
