BR Standard Class 9F 'Black Prince' was built by L Pownall in 1978 and ran primarily on the Walsall Steam Railway until that line closed in the early 1980s. It moved later to the Malden District Society of Model Engineers railway at Thames Ditton, and most recently to the Guildford Model Engineering Society track at Guildford
Sister Dora was initially an exercise for engineering apprentices under the tutelage of West Midlands engineering lecturer Arthur Glaze, himself a prolific manufacturer of miniature steam locomotives. When the company went bankrupt, Arthur accepted the part-built machine in lieu of wages, and finished the machine in 1981. It ran primarily at the Walsall Steam Railway until that line closed in the early 1980s, and it went to the Great Cockcrow Railway in 1988. In 2021 it was bought by Matthew Scrutton and it still runs at the GCR today. Thanks to Mattew Scrutton
'Sapphire' might well turn out to be the last Exmoor Steam Railway locomotive. It was built in 2021 for 'Pugneys' Miniature Railway of Wakefield. Like several of the later machines, it was a tender loco
The line here first opened in 2005 and was as a built as a children’s coin-in-slot 'self-drive', provided by Parkside Railways. Since early 2012, attention has focused on developing the railway atmosphere and extending the running line. A relocated McAlpine container has become a workshop and some timber combined with an ex LNER ‘BZ's’ roof hoops form the basis of an overall roof for the main station (now known as ‘Woodside’).
The Bowleaze Switcher was designed by architect Patrick Henshaw, and built in 1974-75 by Tom Smith at his 'Miracle Works' (actually the garage on his suburban hole in Lechlade, Gloucestershire!). At the time, it was a very large machine, measuring 239cm long, 74cm wide and 131cm tall . The general outline was that of a US 'Switcher' shunting locomotive, with a generously proportioned cab by any standard, let along 7 1/4" gauge, a bonnet filled with heavy traction batteries, and a Smith power-bogie at the rear.
